2010 Student Mini-Grants
For the first time ever, DEP and MEEP awarded student groups with Mini-Grants to implement school energy efficiency projects.
Sample reports from Maine Green Schools:
This year's grant recipients are, in no particular order:
- Brooke Teller's AP Environmental Science class at Casco Bay High School received a grant to purchase energy-efficient hand dryers for two of their bathrooms.
- Nick Pascarella's Ecology class at Monmouth Academy received a grant to purchase task lighting for teachers' desks and occupancy sensors for lights.
- Beth Marass' AP Environmental Science class at Sanford High School received a grant to purchase timers for their laptop charging stations and power strips for computers.
- Tammy Crossman-Turner's 8th grade science class at Tremont Consolidated School also received a grant to purchase timers for their laptop carts.
Sample reports from Maine Green Schools:
The official reviewing committee was looking for proposals that included:
- A savings calculation including payback and possibly a cost-benefit analysis
- An educational component that will encourage continued awareness, even after these students have left.
- A plan for quick implementation of the project, possibly including matching funds or a strong commitment from building officials.
